File # 2022-5713

At about 10:50 a.m. today, a rock slide happened on The Chief near Slhanay Peak Trail.

Squamish Search and Rescue, Squamish Fire Rescue, BC Parks, District of Squamish, and Squamish RCMP responded, and there are no reported injuries to anyone that was in the area.

City Works has closed off Mamquam Forest Service Road, and BC Parks has closed off Slhanay Peak Trail until both agencies can deem areas safe.  The closures are anticipated to last until later this afternoon.

We’re fortunate no one was hurt, and we’re also fortunate to have a good local working group of local partners to help keep people safe, says Corporal Angela Kermer, Sea to Sky RCMP Media Relations Officer.

Police ask anyone with information regarding any crime to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to the website www.crimestoppers.ca
