Fuel fools foiled

File # 2022-3010

On Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 12:54 p.m. Trail and Greater District RCMP received a report of a break, enter, and theft that occurred sometime overnight at a business in the 7000 block of Highway 3B, in Trail, BC. Surveillance cameras captured the three occupants in a dark blue 2005 Ford F150 truck ram through a locked gate into a fenced yard. The thieves used the opportunity to fill up the truck with diesel fuel stored on the property before fleeing.

The catch is that the truck ran on gasoline. And the truck allegedly belonged to one of the three involved in the too strange-to-explain crime. The truck was believed to have quickly broken down after the suspects left the scene of the crime as it was located by police on Highway 22 only a short distance from Trail.

Trail RCMP continues to investigate the incident.

You can’t explain this one. I hope the three suspects will tell us about how their plan was supposed to work. – Sgt. Wicentowich

Drive while prohibited and flight from police

File # 2022-3110

On Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 10:18 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was on a routine patrol in a marked police vehicle when he observed a 44-year-old Fruitvale man driving a black Ford Ranger with a homemade licence plate on Columbia Avenue, in Trail, BC. The officer believed that the man had an outstanding Warrant of Arrest and was prohibited from driving a motor vehicle in BC. The officer activated his emergency equipment to initiate a roadside detention; however, the man refused to stop his vehicle and kept driving through Trail. Additional officers set up a roadblock to intercept the man and his truck who was driving toward the intersection of Carnation Drive and Highway 3B. Upon seeing the road ahead blocked by marked police vehicles, the man stopped roadside and was arrested without further incident.

Trail RCMP will recommend that Crown Counsel pursue criminal charges of Flight from Police Officer contrary to Section 320.17 of the Criminal Code and Driving while Prohibited contrary to Section 95(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act against the 44-year-old Fruitvale man.
