File # 2022-6090

A Cranbrook resident is in custody for an overnight shooting which sent one person to hospital.

Last night at approximately 8:04p.m., Cranbrook RCMP responded to a shots fired complaint in the 400-block of King Street. On arrival officers noted a female bleeding from a gun shot wound and friends attempting to stop the bleeding. The 40-year old female was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Members were immediately advised of the possible identity of the shooter, and the area was shut down in an attempt to locate the male suspect. While cordoning off the area, the alleged shooter identified himself to police and was taken into custody without incident.

With the help of outlying RCMP detachments the local Police Dog Service and our drone operator, Cranbrook members were able to quickly take the man into custody and locate the suspect weapon, says Cst Katie Forgeron. We are asking anyone who might have any information with regard to this incident to please contact our office at 250-489-3471, adds Forgeron.

The 39-year old male remains in custody and faces a number of potential criminal charges pending further investigation and a charge assessment by the BC Prosecution Service.
