Fraud

On June 3rd 2022 the Kitimat RCMP responded to a report of a fraud. The complainant reported that she was contacted by a computer technician and who stated that her bank account was being hacked. The complainant was instructed to take out over $5,000 and bring it to a convenience store and purchase bitcoin. The file remains under investigation. Check stop impaired

On June 4th 2022 at 8:00 pm, the Kitimat RCMP were conducting a vehicle check stop on Kuldo Blvd. An officer checked a driver Alberta driver’s license which was flagged as inactive. While speaking to the driver the officer observed a faint odour of liquor and the driver admitted to consuming alcohol one hour ago. An approved screening device demand was read to the driver and he blew a fail twice. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate driving prohibition and 30-day impoundment.

Dyke Road collision

On June 5th 2022 at 6:15 am, the Kitimat RCMP responded to Dyke Rd near the Riverlodge baseball diamonds for a pick-up truck that was down the embankment. Officers attended and confirmed with the assistance of the Police Dog Service that no occupants were at the scene or surrounding area. The driver was later identified and the collision remains under investigation.

Drive while prohibited

On June 6th 2022 at 7:00 pm an officer conducted a check of a vehicle on Lahakas Blvd. The driver was flagged as being prohibited from driving under the motor vehicle act. The driver was
given an appearance notice for court in July.

Stranded on Saunders Road

On June 7th 2022 at 9:11 pm, the Kitimat RCMP received a call from a male who stated he was
in the back roads of Saunders Haul Road and that his truck was stuck. The male had walked to
the Kitimat River and had started a fire. The male was able to provide GPS coordinates to
police. The Kitimat RCMP tasked Kitimat Search and Rescue who conducted a ground search.
At approximately 4:30 am (June 8th) Kitimat Search and Rescue utilized a helicopter and located
the male safe on a riverbank.

False alarm

June 8th 2022 at 8:30 pm the Kitimat RCMP responded to a gas station following an alarm.
Upon attendance staff confirmed that the alarm was an accident.
