The Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment responded to the several calls for service over the past week between June 9-12, 2022.

Below are some of the highlights from those calls.

File # 2022-2437
On Thursday, June 9, 2022, a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was notified that a youth allegedly made a threat on a social media platform toward a local school in the Trail and Greater District area. The officer notified the school principal who was already actively managing the situation. The student will not be returning to the school for the remainder of the year.

The student allegedly did not have any intention to follow up on the threat, nor had the means to carry it out at the time of the incident. The student is being supported at this time. Trail and Greater District RCMP will continue to monitor the situation in partnership with the school.

Trail RCMP will fully investigate any direct threat made toward a school as several high profile school tragedies have occurred in the recent years. We take these incidents very seriously and the perpetrator may face criminal charges if they apply. - Sgt. Wicentowich

On Friday, June 10, 2022, at 2:37 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a complaint from a 56-year-old Castlegar man that his friend punched him in the head after he told his friend to do so, in downtown Fruitvale, BC. The Castlegar man and his friend allegedly got in a verbal argument prior to the punch.

During the argument, his friend told the Castlegar man that he should punch the Castlegar man in the head. The Castlegar man told his friend to go ahead, and his friend obliged. The Castlegar man was not injured by the punch.  The RCMP officer provided guidance 56-year-old Castlegar man to help avoid such incidents in the future.

Trail RCMP recommends never to consent to being punched in the head during an argument, even if one thinks it may be helpful to one’s case in some way. – Sgt. Wicentowich

On Friday, June 10, 2022, at 8:51 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol when he observed a grey Honda Civic allegedly travelling at 102 km/h in a 50 km/h posted speed zone on Bailey Street, in Trail, BC. The RCMP officer detained 24-year-old Trail woman and her vehicle roadside for speeding excessively.

The RCMP officer issued the woman a $368.00 fine for Excessive Speed contrary to Section 148(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and impounded her vehicle for up to 7 days.

Please slow down and drive defensively. It takes only a second for a tragedy to occur at high speeds. - Sgt. Wicentowich

File # 2022-2460
On Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 12:58 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers received a report about a woman allegedly checking vehicle door handles along Highway 22A near Theatre Road, in Trail, BC. RCMP officers attended the area and arrested a 26-year-old Trail woman for allegedly being in possession of bolt cutters while being prohibited from doing so. Officers conducted a search incidental to the arrest that discovered additional prohibited tools and drug paraphernalia. Officers lodged the 26-year-old woman in custody overnight in the Trail Detachment cell block. A judge released the woman the next day to appear in court on a future date.

Brightney Soukochoff will face one count of Fail to Comply with a Probation Order contrary to Section 733.1 of the Criminal Code.

Trail RCMP has noticed an increased in theft reports in the Waneta area and ask the public to report any suspicious activity to the police. – Sgt. Wicentowich
