File # 2022-6760

The Campbell River RCMP responded to a report of a bank robbery at the Bank of Montreal on Shoppers Row at 2:26 pm on June 2nd, 2022.

Witnesses reported that a masked male entered the bank and produced a note demanding money from a teller.

The suspect was given a substantial amount of cash and fled the bank on foot, with witnesses viewing him changing clothes a short distance away.

Thanks to an astute BC Transit driver, the suspect was located shortly after on a bus in the Willow Point area of Campbell River and was arrested by police without incident.

The 42 year old male suspect was well known to police and remains in custody to attend court on June 3rd, 2022.

This was the best possible outcome that we could hope for in such a situation, said Cst Maury Tyre. The quick response by police and the excellent witnesses allowed the incident to come to a conclusion without anyone being injured and the stolen funds being recovered.

The investigation into the robbery is continuing and police are asking that if anyone has first hand knowledge of the incident and has not spoken to police, that they contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
