Fatal boating incident on Kootenay lake

On May 26th, 2022 at 14:28hrs, the Creston RCMP received a report of a boat collision that occurred on the Southwest shore of Kootenay Lake. This was later determined to be in the in the Nelson RCMP jurisdiction.

Through investigation it was determined that the boat had aground on Kootenay Lake at Rhinoceros point. At the time of the collision the boat had two occupants, and one received serious injuries from the collision.

The investigation is still in the preliminary stages, however there is no indication that impairment by the driver was a factor said Nelson RCMP Corporal Derek Pitt.

The injured occupant was transported to by BC Ambulance for treatment, but unfortunately the 25 year-old Boswell man succumbed to his injuries.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and ask that any witnesses that have not already spoken to police contact the Nelson RCMP at 250-352-2156.
