Missing person

On May 13 2022 Kitimat RCMP received a report of a missing person who had medical conditions that would make them vulnerable to the elements. The person was last seen at their residence at 9:00 am that morning, however spoke with the complainant by telephone around 1:00 pm. The person sounded confused and did not know where they were. Police were able to locate the missing person and confirmed their well being, transporting them back home.

Boat trailer disconnected

On May 13, 2022 4:00 pm, Kitimat RCMP officer observed a Seasport boat off road right at the Kitamaat Village road log dump. The boat was towed by a truck and trailer. The driver stated they were travelling approximately 40km/hr southbound on asphalt covered Kitamaat Village road coming out of a right corner and over frost heaves when the trailer disconnected from the truck, the trailer brakes engaged and went off road right. Witnesses reported the same. Estimated $15000 in damage to the boat and trailer. No injuries reported or observed.

Theft of crab traps

On May 14, 2022, at 1808hrs, Kitimat RCMP received a report of theft of crab traps in Clio Bay about three weeks ago out of the water, near Kitamaat Village, BC. Police spoke with the complainant who reported there have been ongoing issues with thefts in the area. The traps were a "dog-bone" box style crab traps ($250 total), a square box trap with a yellow float was taken with a name marked in black over a name that was previously there ($120 value). Insecure premise

On May 15 2022 at 8:35 am, Kitimat RCMP received a report of insecure premise at the Ice Rink. The
complainant reported the doors to the ice rink were left open all night. Police attended, conducted a walk through determining that the arena was safe and there was no suspicious activity or damage.

Impaired driving

On May 15 2022 at 9:30pm Kitimat RCMP officer was on patrol when they observed a truck driving north on Lahakas Blvd. Police observed the truck swerve right into the cycle lane continuing over to the dirt shoulder and then swerve back onto the road for a total of four times. A traffic stop was effected and police detected a strong odor of liquor emanating from the driver. An impaired operation investigation was initiated and police were able to determine through roadside testing that the driver was impaired by alcohol that exceeded the legal limit. The driver was advised they were prohibited from driving for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. Police like to remind drivers to arrange a safe ride home if they choose to consume alcohol or cannabis.

False alarm

On May 16 at 10:21 am Kitimat RCMP received a report of a residential alarm on Williscroft St. Police attended, conducted a perimeter check confirming that the residence was secure. No signs of a disturbance or break in. The homeowner was updated.

Drug paraphernalia

On May 16 2022 Kitimat RCMP received a report of drug paraphernalia located by the old boxing club near Trigo’s. Police located several naloxone kits, crack pipes, capped and uncapped needles in the area. This was the second report of drug paraphernalia found in this particular area recently. Police remind the community to exercise caution if items like these are observed as they could have drug residue on them, and call police to assist in proper disposal of the items.

Commercial alarm

On May 16 2022 at 5:27pm Kitimat RCMP received a report of a commercial alarm at the BMO Bank. Police attended, confirmed that the business was secure.
