National Police Week: Connected to Our Community

Today marks the beginning of National Police Week – a seven-day public awareness campaign that encourages new connections between police and the communities they serve.

This campaign represents an opportunity to emphasize how police officers are both members of the community they live in and members of the police community they work in. This year, we recognize the connection between the police and Canadians, and the importance of understanding one another.

True understanding means eliminating assumptions and attitudes and making way for open and constructive conversations balanced with active listening. Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued, allowing all parties to derive strength from the relationship. This year, we celebrate our efforts to be connected to our communities.

The Golden RCMP recognizes that most crime and safety issues in our community cannot be solved by the police alone. By working together with our community and our partners, we are better placed to address the issues that may cause crime and safety problems said Cpl. Mike Wilson of the Golden-Field RCMP.

Public safety involves a collaborative effort within police agencies, between police services, and between the police and the communities they serve. As first responders, police officers are often the gateway to many community supports. This week, the Golden-Field RCMP renews its oath to serve and protect the citizens in our region and we continue to strive to align our services to meet their needs and expectations.
