The month of May is motorcycle awareness month. Please read our tips for being motorcycle aware as more motorcyclists hit the road this spring and summer.

Fraud
On April 27, a man reported he had been scammed out of $500. The man received a phone call at 5am that morning from a phone number reading as CIBC on his caller ID, so he answered the call. The caller convinced the man that there was an investigation for a scam at his bank CIBC, and asked him to purchase gift cards to assist in the "investigation" at the bank. The man purchased a $300 gift card, and a $200 gift card as directed by the scammer. The scammer called back and the man provided the serial numbers for the gift cards. The man then realized he had been scammed and reported to police.

Traffic complaint
On April 27 at 3pm, a woman reported a possible impaired driver on Hwy 99S heading into Lillooet and was able to provide a licence plate. The complainant stated the driver was slowing down, then speeding up and driving erratically. Police patrolled the area and located the vehicle. The driver was assessed for and showed no signs of impairment. The driver explained he was learning how to drive manual stick shift for the first time and was struggling with some hills on the highway. Police allowed the man to carry on.

Found property
On April 29, a woman reported she had found a wallet on the sidewalk in the 600 block of Main St. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference Lillooet RCMP file 2022-817.

Liquor Act
On April 29 at 1pm, a woman reported a group of eight people at the Miyazaki House possibly drinking. Police attended and spoke with the group, though there was no open alcohol during police attendance it was clear the group had been drinking and were asked to move along. The group was cooperative with police and departed the area.

Suspicious occurrence
On April 29 at 11pm a woman reported she was camping and saw a strange thing in the sky that was not an aircraft or a star, it flew strangely and the lights were dashes. Police looked outside and observed nothing out of the ordinary. The complainant stated she was camping at the BC Hydro campsite when she saw what she initially thought was a shooting star with a "long tail to it" but the tail did not dissipate; she was looking toward Mt. Mclean. The very bright light came from the West side of Seton Lake and went directly over her, then took a straight path like an air plane, at the speed of an air plane but there were no flashing lights. She claimed it was too long to be an airplane, and the lights were like dashes, the unknown object/light source went East over town and disappeared behind the clouds. The woman also stated she was not wearing her glasses but was adamant it was not a plane nor a star. Police believed the lights to possibly be the StarLink satellite internet constellation, and were unable to take any further action.

Intoxicated in public
On May 1 at 3am, Lillooet hospital staff reported that a man had entered the hospital and passed out near the front door. Lillooet RCMP attended and located the man who was determined to be intoxicated. The man was arrested and transported to Lillooet cells to safely sober up.
