File # 2022-2821

Quesnel RCMP is advising the public that a lockdown that occurred at Correlieu Secondary School earlier this morning has been lifted.

On April 20, 2022, at approximately 9:37 a.m., Quesnel RCMP responded to a third party report that a man was seen with a firearm outside Correlieu Secondary. Both the high school and a neighbouring elementary school were placed in lockdown and several police officers attended the area. Police searched both schools and did not locate a person with a firearm.

Quesnel RCMP have not yet been able to identify the original caller. Witnesses who were in the area at the time did not see a man with a firearm.

At this stage of the investigation, there is no information to substantiate the threat, said Sgt. Clay Kronebusch of the Quesnel RCMP. This type of weapon complaint at a school is concerning for everyone involved. The quick response by the police and the lockdown procedures at the schools ensured the safety of the students and staff.

Police continue to investigate the incident to identify the origin of the phone call received.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211.
