Commercial helicopter crash in remote area of Sayward leaves one pilot dead

Sayward RCMP is investigating after a commercial helicopter crashed in a remote area of Sayward, leaving one pilot dead.

On Wednesday April 6, 2022, just after 9:00 a.m., the Sayward RCMP was notified that a helicopter conducting wood movement had crashed north of Sayward along the Johnstone Strait.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre was notified and a Search and Rescue team from 442 Comox was dispatched to the scene. Unfortunately, the lone pilot was found deceased.

The RCMP is working alongside Transportation Safety Board, and the BC Coroners Service to determine the cause of this incident.
