Railway safety awareness from Lillooet RCMP

2022-03-25 08:30 PDT

Lillooet features a railway track that parallels the main corridor of Main St, extending south into Seton Lake, and north across the Fraser River. While this may appear to be a convenient walking or running route, Lillooet RCMP reminds everyone that these railways are private property.

The railway through Lillooet is open and active. Besides trains, other railway equipment and rail vehicles also use the railway. These vehicles are often much quieter than an actual train. Recently a rail bus has also been using the railway to commute between Lillooet and Seton Portage/Shalalth.

Railway safety tips:

Lillooet RCMP and CN Rail Police request everyone to avoid using railways as walking or running routes for their own safety. If you must cross a railway, ensure you stop, look, and listen before crossing.
