File # 21-9257
Samantha Dittmer was arrested in August of 2021 after a man was found dead inside a home on 18 Avenue in Port Alberni. A charge of manslaughter was initially approved by the British Columbia Prosecution Service.
Our initial release can be read here.
As of last week, the BC Prosecution Service has increased the charge against Dittmer to second degree murder.
Investigations such as these are complex which is why often it takes time to secure all evidence to support charges being laid, stated Constable Richard Johns Media Relations Officer.
Officers have put in hundreds of hours into this investigation in cooperation with our General Duty, and Forensic Identification sections as well as the BC Coroner’s Service.
As the RCMP have now forwarded their report to the BC Prosecution Service, and this matter is before the courts, the RCMP will not be providing further updates at this time.
