On March 5, 2022 officers with BC Highway Patrol Kamloops were working in the Cache Creek area when a truck and camper towing a trailer was stopped as the combination did not appear to be safe.
After informing the driver of the reason for the stop, the officers proceeded to weigh the truck/camper/trailer configuration and found that it was grossly overweight. The officers conducted computer inquiries on the driver whose behaviour was causing suspicion. As a result of the inquiries, observations of the driver and observations of the inside of the truck he was driving, the driver was arrested and the officers entered into a firearms investigation.
During the course of the search, the officers located six rifles in total along with thousands of rounds of ammunition. The driver, a man in his sixties from the Lower Mainland area, is facing a number of firearms charges, including unlawful possession of firearms as he did not have a firearms licence. In addition, the truck/camper and trailer were seized and the driver was issued several violation tickets and an Inspection Notice for the trailer. The driver’s first court appearance is scheduled for October 13, 2022.
Officers with BC Highway Patrol are always on the lookout for more than just speeders and impaired drivers and have to be prepared for anything,
says Corporal Mike Halskov, media relations officer for BCHP. The safety of the motoring public, which includes the condition of vehicles being operated on our highways, is a priority and this incident demonstrates how we are making our highways safer together.
