1. 2022-1076 – Impaired and Drugs
On February 16, 2022 Squamish RCMP responded to a call regarding a parked vehicle on Second Ave that was just side swiped by another vehicle and had left the scene. A short time later, an off duty Member noticed a vehicle with severe damage to the driver’s side and it was travelling 50 km/hr in a 70 km/hr zone. Members attended and conducted a traffic stop with the damaged vehicle. After speaking with the driver, it was suspected the driver of the vehicle was impaired. The driver failed a roadside test and was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance when a crack pipe was located. The driver had his licence suspended and the vehicle was towed.
2. 2022-1077 - Impaired
On February 16, 2022 thanks to the quick action of a citizen, police were alerted to an intoxicated male driving away from a pub in Squamish. A BCHP Member was able to stop the vehicle and driver. A breath test was conducted which the driver blew a ‘warn’. The driver was given an opportunity to do a second breath test on a second device which also resulted in a ‘warn’. The driver was given paperwork. The vehicle was towed and the driver was picked up by a friend.
3. 2022-1099 – Impaired Check-Stop
On February 17, 2022 Squamish RCMP conducted an Impaired Driving Check stop in Squamish Valley. 526 vehicles travelled the area and multiple breath tests were conducted, which resulted in no impaired drivers.
4. 2022-1144 – Impaired
On February 20, 2022 a Squamish RCMP Member was proactively patrolling Squamish and observed a pickup truck driving erratically. The Member conducted a roadside stop, the driver admitted to using drugs and ultimately failed a roadside test. The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The vehicle was searched incidental to arrest and drug paraphernalia was seized. The vehicle was towed and the driver was released on paperwork.
