Fatal house fire in Lillooet, BC

One person has died following a fire at a residence in Lillooet, BC on February 16, 2022.

On February 16, 2022 at 8:17pm Lillooet RCMP along with Stl’atl’imx Police responded to a report of a house fire in the area of Texas Creek Rd and Mitchell Rd. Lillooet Fire Department was already on scene and fought the blaze into the night and early morning of February 17, 2022.

On February 17, 2022 BC Coroner Service joined Lillooet RCMP and Lillooet Fire on scene and discovered human remains of one individual. The deceased has been tentatively identified but confirmation of identity, as well as cause of death will be made at an autopsy.

The outcome of this incident is incredibly tragic. We extend our sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are also with our first responder family and others impacted by this tragedy, says Constable Andrew Hodges, of the Lillooet RCMP.

The cause of the fire, which remains undetermined, is not believed to be criminal in nature or suspicious.
