Traffic stops leads to seizure of drugs, cash and replica firearms

A traffic stop last week in Port Alberni has led to the seizure of suspected illicit drugs, cash and several replica firearms.
On February 3, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the Port Alberni Crime Reduction Unit performed a traffic stop of a rental vehicle on 10 Avenue in Port Alberni. In the course of the traffic investigation, the officers formed grounds to arrest the driver and impound the vehicle. A search warrant was obtained and a substantial quantity of various drugs and paraphernalia, cash and several replica hand guns were seized.
The driver was later released with a court appearance this summer to answer to potential charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Criminal Code and Motor Vehicle Act. His release was conditional on complying with multiple restrictions, including not to be in Port Alberni, his name is not being released until charges pending the outcome of the investigation and charge assessment.
