File # Boost and Bust
The Comox Valley RCMP Bike Unit is not only good at riding bikes, they’re good at busting shoplifters. An established partnership between the RCMP and local businesses has seen numerous proactive arrests this year.
At the beginning of the year, members of the Comox Valley RCMP Bike Unit collaborated with a few local businesses in an initiative to catch more shoplifters and curb the dollars being lost as a result of this crime. Police officers partnered with loss prevention officers inside the stores and were posted outside the stores waiting for the thieves to exit.
Throughout the year, people have been caught stealing meat, energy drinks, electronics, muffin tins, and so much more. When stores lose money at the hands of shoplifters, it is often recovered in higher prices or staffing cuts which directly affects residents here in the Comox Valley.
Said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.
On December 15, 2021 police spent just two hours at one business and arrested three people. This Boost and Bust
initiative will continue into 2022 here in the Comox Valley.
