Campbell River Walmart Stabbing Update December 8th, 2021

Correction*** The initial release regarding the stabbing that occurred in the Walmart Store in Campbell River on December 7th, 2021 indicated that the suspect male was trying to leave the store with goods when approached by a security guard. That information was determined to be partially incorrect due to lack of information in regards to the file at the time.

During the course of the investigation it was determined that the suspect in the stabbing had actually been previously asked to leave the store by security and had returned in disguise.

When a security officer advised the suspect that he still needed to leave the store he threatened that guard with a knife so the guard disengaged and the suspect walked away. A second guard saw the male and was subsequently threatened and stabbed several times shortly before 11:00 am on December 7th, 2021.

The suspect then proceeded to load several TV's onto a shopping cart and flee out the fire exit.

A suspect was apprehended in the matter at approximately 5 pm on December 7th, 2021 and remains in police custody awaiting court.

The guard remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Police have requested charges including Aggravated Assault and Robbery.

We very much understand the public's interest in this matter, said Cst Maury Tyre. The suspect is  facing the possibility of some very serious charges and our investigation is ongoing. If anyone has first hand knowledge of events that has not talked to police, we encourage them to come forward and contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
