Two People Arrested After Stolen Vehicle in Qualicum Beach Hits Police Car

On November 23, 2021 at 9:30 AM Oceanside RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near Higson Crescent and Seacroft Road in Qualicum Beach. The vehicle had been parked in the area for over two hours with a male driver and female passenger seen sleeping inside.

Upon arrival, the attending Frontline officer began to speak to the driver when the driver suddenly started the vehicle and drove away at high speed striking the officer’s marked police vehicle and narrowly missing the officer. The vehicle was last seen northbound on Highway 19A.

Throughout the morning officers from Oceanside RCMP, Comox Valley RCMP, Police Dog Services, BC Highway Patrol and Air 8 searched for the vehicle.

After being spotted by police officers and members of the public in numerous locations around Courtenay, Union Bay, Bowser and Horne Lake, the vehicle was subsequently located abandoned near the 3200 block of Island Highway West and Van Isle Road in Qualicum Bay at 12:45 PM. A 30-year-old woman was arrested at the vehicle and a short police dog track led to the arrest of the male driver, 41-year-old Mark Mann of Parksville.

"The vehicle was determined to be have been stolen from Regina, Saskatchewan on October 1, 2021. Mark Mann was found to be have outstanding warrants for of Fraud and Prohibited Driving" said Sergeant Shane Worth, Oceanside RCMP Operations Support NCO "Mann was held in custody to appear in Court on November 24, 2021 to deal with the warrants as well as new charge recommendations of Hit and Run, Dangerous Driving, Obstruction, Possession of Stolen Property and Prohibited Driving. The passenger was released to appear in Court at a later date"

The damage to the marked police vehicle was minimal and there were no injuries to anyone involved in this incident.

"The Oceanside RCMP thanks members of the public for reporting suspicious occurrences in their neighbourhoods and as demonstrated, today’s call to police resulted in the arrest of a wanted person and the recovery of a stolen vehicle" Worth added.
