File # 2021-573
The McBride RCMP remains on the scene of a collision between a semi-truck and passenger bus that claimed the life of one man this afternoon.
Just before 1:30 p.m. on November 20, 2021 frontline officers from the McBride RCMP and fire service were called to a collision involving a semi- truck and a bus on Highway 16 near the Goat River Bridge. Both vehicles were reportedly engulfed in flames.
When investigators arrived they found the driver of the semi-truck deceased and nine bus passengers, and the bus driver with injuries ranging from minor to serious. While en route to the scene, police received information that a Good Samaritan had transported three additional bus passengers, who had suffered minor injuries, in their personal vehicle to a local area hospital. One individual was airlifted to a larger area hospital.
While the investigation remains in the vey early states, preliminary indications are that the semi was travelling eastbound and lost control, striking the bus which was travelling westbound,
states S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP.
A collision reconstruction and analyst has been called to assist in the investigation.
The area remains closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for several hours while the investigation continues. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and monitor DriveBC for the most up to date road closure information.
