File # 2021-6502
The Chief has had two rock slides within 24 hours, and BC Parks and Squamish RCMP ask people to stay away until BC Parks can assess the stability of the rock face.
The first slide happened in the early hours of Monday, September 20, 2021 near Peak 1 and Peak 2. Squamish RCMP received multiple reports from local residents about hearing the slide and seeing dust. BC Parks, Fire Rescue, and Squamish RCMP did joint and individual patrols to ensure no one was hurt.
The second slide this afternoon happened near Angel’s Crest Trail at about 4:45 p.m., and there have been no reports of injuries.
We ask people to stay away from the area until BC Parks can assess the situation and until they deem okay to return,
says Corporal Dallas Langley of the Squamish RCMP. While this area is popular for recreation enthusiasts, we need to make sure people stay safe.
Squamish RCMP asks anyone with any information about any crime to contact the detachment at 604-892-6100, or, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or, go to www.solvecrime.ca
