Port Alberni RCMP is looking for a missing boater

On August 16th, 2021, Port Alberni RCMP was advised of a missing person in a remote location of the Port Alberni RCMP Detachment area near Rainy Bay, in the Alberni Inlet/Barkley Sound area. A 66-year-old male was unaccounted for after leaving camp to get cell service on his boat, his boat was found adrift by his companions who placed calls to 911 and a Mayday on the VHF radio. Their immediate search of the area did not locate him. The Canadian Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), Ucluelet RCMP and West Coast Marine Services of the RCMP responded to the location.

The missing male has an address in the Lower Mainland however has family ties to the Port Alberni area; next of kin have been advised of the situation. His identity is not being disclosed at this time. The investigation is continuing from Port Alberni with support from West Coast Marine Services and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team
