
Woman arrested for arson, RCMP looking for tips on another fire

On July 20th, 2021 at approximately 08:35 am, Port Alberni RCMP responded with Port Alberni Fire Department to an active fire west of 3rd Avenue near Harbour Road. An officer and fire department members located a female actively adding material to the fire, she fled from the location and was arrested shortly thereafter on 4th Avenue. Video of the incident is provided by nearby businesses and the suspect is appearing in court today on this matter as well as other, unrelated charges. This matter is still under investigation and video from nearby businesses and residences in the area is sought for review.
On July 19th, 2021 at approximately 11:55 pm, Port Alberni RCMP responded to a vehicle on fire at 4th Avenue between Redford and Bute. The vehicle was completely engulfed and destroyed, Port Alberni Fire Department extinguished the fire and ensured there was no damage to surrounding property. The matter is under investigation, witnesses and video from residences, businesses or dash cameras are requested to identify those responsible.
With the current weather it is crucial that we control all potential sources of ignition and be mindful of activities in our area that may result in fires. For fire response within the city of Port Alberni call 911 and ask for Fire, if suspects or suspicious activity is observed, request Police as well.
