File # 2021-1433
A serious head on crash, west of Golden BC on the Trans-Canada Highway, is responsible for claiming the life of two drivers Saturday morning.
On June 26, 2021 shortly after 11:30 a.m., Golden RCMP received a report of a serious two vehicle head on collision, along Highway 1, approximately 20 kilometers west of Golden BC. Witnesses told police that a green Dodge Ram pickup truck, towing a trailer, crossed the centre line on a curve and collided head on with a white Chevrolet Tahoe.
The impact of the collision resulted in one of the two vehicles catching fire, with the flames quickly spreading to nearby trees and brush, due to the extreme temperatures in the region, states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for the BC RCMP in the Southeast District.
Fire crews managed to extinguish the blaze before it could spread any further.
The driver of each vehicle involved was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency paramedics with the BC Emergency Health Services. The BC Coroners Service was notified and has launched its own concurrent fact-finding investigation into the deaths of both drivers. The RCMP will be working with the BC Coroners Service to positively identify each of the deceased. The identity of both men will not be released publicly, due to their privacy under the Coroner’s Act.
The police investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic crash is being led by the Golden RCMP, with support from BC Highway Patrol.
If you witnessed this crash and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to call the Golden RCMP at 250-344-2221.
