The Port Alberni RCMP has been quietly conducting drug investigations in the local area for several months and want to share their successes.

The investigations have been primarily focussed on drug dealers located in the City of Port Alberni, in an effort to help combat the ongoing opioid epidemic.

So far we’ve seized various drugs including Cocaine, Crystal Meth, Psilocybin and Fentanyl, and were’ not done yet! says Port Alberni RCMP Detachment Commander Inspector Eric Rochette We’ve also seized a variety of weapons from these dealers. Yes this adds additional charges, but more importantly removes both drugs and weapons from the street making Port Alberni a safer place

This is a bigger issue beyond policing and requires a multi-pronged approach that includes prevention, education, harm reduction and enforcement. The Port Alberni RCMP work closely with various agencies throughout the Vancouver Island including Island Health, BC Ambulance and local mental health groups to support all efforts, ensuring overdoses and addictions are dealt with as a health/medical emergencies.

We will continue to use an information lead and targeted approach to locate these dealers said Sergeant Clayton Wiebe The tips we receive helps decides where we focus our efforts. We could not do the work we do without the support of the public, and we want them to know their information is both crucial and appreciated

Many of the investigations are continuing, and charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and various weapon charges will be recommended against numerous targeted individuals.

Should you have information and want to report it to the Port Alberni RCMP General Investigation Section, they can be contacted at (250) 723-2424.
