File # 2021-4134
Just after 3:30 a.m. on April 4th, the Port Alberni RCMP responded to a complaint of an injured man in the 3600 block of 5th avenue in Port Alberni.
Upon arrival, Port Alberni front line members located a man suffering from serious injuries, after being stabbed multiple times. First aid was immediately performed on the injured man by the members, who were later relieved by BC Ambulance and members of the Port Alberni fire Department Fire. The injured man was taken for further medical treatment at a local hospital.
Multiple witnesses to the assault quickly identified the suspect, his specific clothing description and his last know direction of travel. Police Dog Services out of Nanaimo were contacted, and began searching for the suspect, who was ultimately not located.
The suspect was well known to the victim and witnesses, as well as members of the Port Alberni RCMP says Port Alberni RCMP Sergeant Clayton Wiebe
We believe this was an isolated incident, however the suspect has been known to be violent in the past.
In the early hours April 13th the Nanaimo RCMP received a complaint of some unknown persons in a private vacant lot. When Nanaimo RCMP members attended, they identified one of the men as the suspect from the Port Alberni stabbing investigation. This man was arrested for the incident and transported to the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment, where it was discovered he was also in possession of drugs believed to be fentanyl.
The man has since been released with a court date in June 2021 in Port Alberni.
