File # 2021-695

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the circumstances surrounding a collision that resulted in the death of a woman early Monday morning.

On March 22, 2021 shortly after 5 a.m., emergency crews were called to attend to a two vehicle head-on collision along Highway 3, approximately 7 km north of Yahk BC. The collision involved a southbound passenger car and a northbound pickup truck.

Preliminary findings by investigators suggests that the passenger car may have veered across the centre line of the highway and into the oncoming lane, states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the RCMP Southeast District.

The driver of the passenger car, a 19-year-old woman, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, a man in his 20s, suffered what police believed to be non-life threatening injuries. He was transported by BC Emergency Health Services to hospital for medical treatment.

The BC Coroners Service has been notified and has launched an independent and concurrent fact-finding investigation into the woman’s death. Due to the privacy of the deceased under the Coroner’s Act, her identity will not be released publicly.

If you witnessed this crash and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to call the Creston RCMP at 250-428-9313
