Enhanced School Bus Safety in Whistler

Whistler RCMP members have been paying extra attention to the school bus routes during school pick up and drop off times. We are using marked and unmarked police vehicles along bus routes to watch for any motor vehicle act infractions. This initiative started after Whistler RCMP received several traffic complaints pertaining to motorists passing school buses. Passing a school bus when it is stopped is extremely irresponsible and dangerous; you’re putting children’s life at risk. If a school bus is stopped and its flashing lights are activated, it is an offence under Section 149 of the Motor Vehicle Act (Fail to stop for School bus), which carries a fine of $368. If you observe a motorist passing a school bus, please contact the Whistler RCMP non-emergency line.
