Barricaded person … ERT deployed

On Sunday, February 28, 2021, Kaslo RCMP were informed of written communication alluding to potential future harm to individuals, such as lethal action and the taking of hostages. The author of the communication is known to have medical issues that are of concern for their wellbeing.

Police attended the residence, however were unable to locate the individual. On Monday, March 1, 2021, police returned to the property and located the woman. She appeared to be visibly distressed and refused to speak with police and began waving an edged weapon at the police and then barricaded herself inside her home.

After several attempts to communicate with the woman failed, support units were called to the scene including, ERT. After all attempts to negotiate with her proved unsuccessful, ERT deployed tactics that caused the woman to safely exit the home and she was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital for treatment.
