File # 2021-522

Castlegar RCMP is investigating the stabbing of two Castlegar teenagers.

On February 21, 2021 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Castlegar RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services were called to the 1000-block of 2 Street Castlegar, BC for a report of a distraught female requiring emergency services. Within minutes police arrived and were re-directed to Castlegar emergency paramedics who were a short distance away from the initial call, tending to two Castlegar youths under the age of sixteen both suffering from stab wounds.

The matter is still under investigation but it appears the suspect female after leaving the address in the 1000-block of 2 Street attended to a nearby private residence and gained entry. Upon entering the residence the suspect confronted two teenage occupants where an altercation ensued with both occupants being stabbed by the suspect, one occupant receiving multiple stab wounds. After the attack the suspect fled on foot but was shortly apprehended in the area by police.

Both victims were transported to hospital by ambulance. The extent of the injuries, especially to the one victim are believed to be serious and the victim is anticipated to spend some time recovering in hospital. Both victims and their families are recovering physically and emotionally after this incident.

29-year-old Sasha Margaret Prokaski of no fixed address but recent to Castlegar is currently in police custody after being formally charged with break and enter, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of uttering threats.

The victims and Prokaski were unknown to each other and it appears Prokaski had no known affiliation to the residence.

RCMP is continuing to investigate and forward information to the BC Prosecution Service for full charge assessment. Prokaski’s next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday February 23, 2020 at the Castlegar Provincial Court house.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Castlegar RCMP at 250-365-7721.
