One person confirmed deceased following helicopter crash

Investigators have been able to access the remote area where a helicopter crashed north of Stewart on Monday, August 17 2020 and can now confirm one person has died. The pilot was the only person on board when the helicopter went down.

Multiple agencies were involved from the beginning including RCMP, Terrace Search and Rescue, EMBC, BC Coroners Service, and BC Conservation Service, working together to overcome technical challenges to proceed in recovery operations.

Transportation Safety Board, along with the RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating, however at this time the cause has not been determined.

Getting to the scene proved to challenging for investigators said Cst Cst Ryan Fillmore, Stewart RCMP. More information may become available as the investigation continues.

The RCMP and BC Coroners Service will not be releasing the name of the deceased and have no further information at this time.
