The Terrace RCMP have encountered a number of motorists in recent days who have had difficulty with the process of transferring vehicles into or out of their name when buying or selling a used vehicle.
There are a number of steps to follow to ensure the transfer is completed properly. Click Here for ICBC's easy to follow steps for both the buyer and the seller.
Related fine amounts:
- Transfer of vehicle not registered after 10 days - $109 S.17(1) MVA
- Failing to produce a registration - $109 S.21(7)(1) MVA
If a vehicle is used in committing violations under the Motor Vehicle Act, the registered owner may be liable for any fines incurred. This applies even if the previous registered owner sold it to someone else. It is in the best interest for you, the seller, and the public to transfer registration formally through ICBC to avoid any unwanted fees or fines.
