An autopsy of those remains has led to the positive identification of the deceased, a 45-year-old Balfour woman, states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for the RCMP Southeast District. Further investigation has led police to believe that the woman died as a result of the blaze, which is no longer being considered criminal in nature.

Although an exact cause of the fire has not been able to be determined by investigators. Police believe the blaze was accidental in nature and possibly related to a burning heat or light source.

Due to the privacy of the deceased under the Coroners Act, her name will not be released. The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service have no further information for release.
