WK IRSU supports provincial Distracted Driving/Seatbelt Campaign
2021-03-15 10:31 HAP
On Friday, March 12, 2021, officers from West Kootenay IRSU conducted an enforcement blitz in Nelson in support of the March Distracted Driving and Occupant Restraint campaign being held across the province this month.
Officers set up a road-check near the Courthouse in Nelson. In about four hours, officers issued tickets for the following offences:
- 18 - use electronic devices while driving (+ 1 warning); and
- 7 - fail to wear seat belt (+ 3 warnings).
Officers observed a number of commercial drivers from utility and delivery companies who were using electronic devices or not wearing seat belts.
Police would like to remind all motorists, including commercial drivers, that there is no exemption from wearing a seat belt and electronic devices must be used in a hands-free, one-touch mode, preferably affixed to your dashboard with a mounting bracket.
