On November 30th the Tofino RCMP arrested an Opisaht man who had several outstanding warrants, and later executed a search warrant at a residence of someone he was not to have contact with.

The suspect was prohibited from possessing firearms by a Court Order after a previous conviction for Assault with a Weapon from June of 2018. He also failed to appear for a court date in March 2020, and a warrant was sworn for his arrest. He is also bound by the Family law Act not to have contact with an individual, but was found to be actively avoiding police by living at that residence. This is the same residence where the search warrant was executed, and drugs and firearms were located.

The Tofino RCMP used the resources of the RCMP helicopter, Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team to locate and safely arrest the suspect. He fled from the residence when police approached, but was located a short time later nearby said Tofino RCMP Detachment Commander Sergeant Todd Pebernat. This was great work by the Tofino RCMP membership and partnering agencies. From locating and arresting the suspect, executing a search warrant and seizing firearms, this shows how hard the members here work for the safety of their community.

The 39-year old man was held in custody on the strength of the outstanding warrants for his arrest. He now faces new potential charges by the BC Prosecution Service for the suspected drugs and firearms in his possession.
