The BC Coroners Service is investigating two deaths involving two males in their 20s from Haines, Alaska.

Due to the privacy of the deceased, the Coroners Service is not releasing identity but is investigating to determine how, where, when and by what means they came to their unexpected deaths. It is known they were involved in an avalanche incident at Tatshenshini-Alsek Park west of Atlin which lies between Haines Junction, Yukon and Haines, Alaska.

According to Avalanche Canada, there have been a series of recent storms in the region, with significant amounts of new snow and very strong winds. Avalanche Canada warns backcountry recreationists in this area to minimize their exposure to avalanche terrain at this time.

All media inquiries should be directed to the B.C. Coroners Service.
