BC Highway Patrol investigating fatal crash near McLure

On November 24, 2021 at approximately 3:00 PM, BC Highway Patrol and Emergency Services responded to a four-vehicle collision on Highway 5, north of the Fish Trap Rest Area near McLure, BC.
Upon arrival it was determined that a northbound transport truck collided head-on with a southbound transport truck. Two other vehicles were involved and the drivers of the secondary vehicles sustained non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the northbound transport truck sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries, while the driver of the southbound transport truck was uninjured. A passenger in the northbound transport truck, a woman in her seventies, died in the collision.
BC Highway Patrol has conduct of the investigation with assistance from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement branch and the BC Coroners' Service. The highway was closed for nine hours as police investigated and made the highway safe for travel. DriveBC.ca is reporting that the highway is open this morning, November 25th.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, however road and weather conditions are believed to be contributing factors. BCHP recommends that motorists drive according to the road and weather conditions, have suitable winter tires and carry or use chains when required.
