North Cowichan / Duncan RCMP investigating structure fire

 Just before 11p.m. the North Cowichan/ Duncan RCMP were contacted for assistance by the North Cowichan Fire Department who received several calls of a structure fire on Dingwall St. Duncan.

When the members arrived on scene the North Cowichan Fire Department was already on scene dealing with the fire, and BC Ambulance was tending to some residents from where it is believed the fire originated.

Several of the residents were in need of further medical aid and were transported to hospital for injuries received in the fire.

Investigators will continue to work on this incident to determine what was caused this fire stated Staff Sergeant Chris Swain, acting Detachment Commander The preliminary report appears to show it was unintentionally caused, but the final fire report will take some time for a proper determination

The North Cowichan / Duncan RCMP General Investigation Section will be working in partnership with the North Cowichan Fire Inspector on this investigation.

A temporary shelter location was set up at the Cowichan Community Centre for anyone displaced, where they could relocate for the evening if needed.
