Merritt men pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a home invasion

On August 20, 2021, Mr. James McMath and Mr. Brian Chivers both pleaded guilty to one count of Possess a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, stemming from a home invasion that occurred in November 2020, in the 2300 block of Coutlee Avenue. Both Mr. McMath and Mr. Chivers had been charged with one count of Robbery, which was stayed by Crown Counsel prior to their pleas. Each received a Conditional Discharge, Probation for 12 months and were ordered to pay a victim surcharge of $100.

Man charged for assaulting a police officer

On August 18, 2021, the Merritt RCMP received a call from a concerned citizen reporting a male throwing cigarette butts into bushes in the 2000 block of Nicola Avenue. The male was located and tried to flee on the officer. He resisted arrest, assaulting the police officer in the process. On August 19, 2021, Mr. Matthew Lawrence Ortt was charged with one count of assaulting a police officer. He is set to appear in Merritt Court on August 31, 2021.
