Over the past months residents of the Merritt area have been dealing with real threat of these horrendous wildfires. We empathize with those that have been evacuated and those that have experience tremendous loss. We want to remind the public, if you want to visit your properties in evacuation zones, please call the Thompson Nicola Regional District Permit Access Line at 250-377-7188 or your local First Nations Government to get a permit. Residents are encouraged to monitor the TNRD website for updates on the Evacuation Orders and Alerts.
Merritt Man charged with Utter Threats and Assaulting a Police Officer

On June 29, 2021, police were called to Quilchena Avenue, near Voght Street for a male chasing a female. The male was arrested by police and in the process attempted to assault the police officer. On August 12, 2021, Mr. Matthew Washington was charged with 2 counts of Utter Threats and 1 count of Assault a Police Officer. He is set to appear in Merritt Law Courts on August 31, 2021.
Merritt Man charged with Utter Threats

On July 5, 2021, the Merritt RCMP received a report of Uttering Threats that had occurred the previous evening in the 1700 block of Bann Street. A thorough investigation was completed and on August 16, 2021, Mr. Manmohan Singh Bhangu was charged with one count of Utter Threats. He is set to appear at the Merritt Law Courts on September 14, 2021.
