On Friday, June 11, 2021 at 12:02 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP was contacted by BC Ambulance concerning a possible fatal vehicle collision near the intersection of Horse Lake Road at McMillan Road.
It was reported a single vehicle had left the roadway and come to rest against some small trees and an elderly male driver was in medical distress. BC Ambulance, 100 Mile Fire Rescue, RCMP BC Highway Patrol – 100 Mile House and a CVSE inspector attended the scene to assist. Upon arrival, it was quite clear the elderly man was in medical distress, so BC Air Ambulance was called to the scene. The roadway was shut down for a significant time as a result. Dawson Road Maintenance flaggers coming onto the scene also stopped to assist with traffic control.
The investigation revealed the local man had been headed westbound in his van toward 100 Mile House along Horse Lake Road, when the van was observed by witnesses to slow down considerably, start to weave back and forth and then exit the roadway to the left side, coming to rest against some small trees. The witnesses on scene attended to the vehicle and immediately assisted the man by attempting CPR, which was continued by BC Ambulance and 100 Mile Fire Rescue when they arrived on scene. After BC Air Ambulance arrived, the man was determined to be deceased. 100 Mile House RCMP contacted the BC Coroner’s office and are assisting the local Coroner with their investigation. The next of kin notification was completed by RCMP.
100 Mile House RCMP and all the other emergency services offer our condolences to the family of the deceased. Our supportive investigation is ongoing.
