File # 2021-362

On Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 10:52 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP attended to a reported motor vehicle collision near Lovett Road in Lac La Hache BC. A Pontiac Sunfire had been driving in the wrong lane and collided with a Tractor Trailer near that location.

Upon Police, Fire and Ambulance arriving on scene, they located the Sunfire with extensive damage and all airbags deployed but no one inside. The highway was closed as a result of the investigation.

A search for an ejected person started, to no avail. Soon after, a phone call was received from a nearby residence where a 33 year old man with blood on his face had startled the homeowner stating he had been in a collision after being shot at while driving. The man then fled that address after the homeowner was calling the Police.

The Police Service Dog Team Grimm was called out from Williams Lake and attended to search for the injured man. Upon the PDS team’s arrival at the scene, the barking patrol dog had the man reconsider his approach to the situation and he quickly made himself available to Police. The man had minor injuries to his forehead and was intoxicated. No evidence at the scene or from witnesses supported his contention that he had been shot at either. The highway was reopened about 1.5 hours later
The investigation is ongoing.
