2021-01-11 10:19 PST

On Saturday, January 9 2021, at 6:27 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP attended to an address on Burgess Road in the Deka Lake area near 100 Mile House BC for a report of a suicidal woman with a knife threatening to harm herself and others. Prior to arrival, all other family in the residence had fled next door, leaving the woman in the house alone.

All on duty members attended and entered the residence to ensure the woman's well being. After a lengthy negotiation with the woman still holding a knife, a Conducted Energy Weapon was deployed and the woman was successfully apprehended under the Mental Health Act of BC. BC Ambulance, which had been staging nearby during the event, checked the woman over for any injuries right after the incident. The woman was then transported to 100 Mile Hospital to speak with a physician for
further evaluation as per the Mental Health Act.

No other person(s) nor any officers were injured during this incident. These incidents are very high stress for all those involved, and everyone will be offered victim assistance as a result for additional support. The officers involved will be spoken too and protocol followed regarding debriefing as necessary. There will be no further reporting of this incident.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with their mental health, you can contact Canada Suicide Prevention Service at 1-833-456-4566 or text START to 741741 or attend your local hospital to speak with a physician.
