File # 2020-19540

North Cowichan Duncan RCMP arrested a 29-year-old man and recovered a stolen truck on December 18 after the vehicle was stolen the day before near Chemainus, BC.

On December 17, 2020, front-line police officers received a call from the owner of the truck, reporting that it was missing from the parking lot at his place of employment. Police did patrols immediately and shared a description of the missing vehicle with police agencies around southern Vancouver Island.

At around 1:30 am on December 18, police received a call from a citizen in Chemainus about this investigation. On-duty members attended and recovered the stolen truck thanks to this tip from the community. Though police set up containment using emergency vehicle equipment and had assistance from the Police Dog Service, the suspect was not initially located during a search in the surrounding area. Police do not believe that the public was at risk from this suspect during this search.

Later in the day, the suspect involved in this file turned himself in to police and was arrested without incident.

Ronald Lorenz is currently facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle and being in possession of property obtained by crime. Police are still investigating other alleged offences related to this incident with the help of the RCMP Forensic Identification Services. Further charges may be considered as the investigation progresses.
