A sexual assault investigation that started in March 2019 results in the conviction of a local Port Alberni resident.

In March 2019 the Port Alberni RCMP were made aware of a suspect in the community who had sexually assaulted several people. As the investigation progressed it became apparent that there would be multiple victims, multiple locations where the assaults took place, and some of the victims were minors. At that time the Port Alberni General Investigation Section was requested to assume the investigation, and continue the great work started by the frontline members.

This complex and resource intensive investigation identified multiple victims, some who were minors at the time, over many years and several locations says Port Alberni RCMP Detachment Acting Operations Officer, Sergeant Peter Dionne. The tireless and hard work of the investigators surely had a bearing on the recent conviction of the suspect. This investigation stands as a testament to the dedication the members of the detachment have for safety and well-being of the community

The suspect was found guilty, received a 4 year sentence, and remains in custody.
