On Friday, November 6 2020 at 9:31 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP attended to a fire to assist 100 Mile Fire Rescue at the abandoned 100 Mile Junior Secondary located on Cedar Avenue in 100 Mile House BC. The retired school is currently being torn down and cleared off the old property. A fire had been set by someone in the current debris pile at the northeast corner of the school, which is the old dormitory and cafeteria area.

RCMP remained on scene and investigated while 100 Mile Fire Rescue fought to contain the blaze to the debris pile. Two possible suspects were identified near the location. Evidence was seized near the pile by 100 Mile Fire Rescue and provided to 100 Mile House RCMP for further analysis. This event is currently being jointly investigated as an arson. 100 Mile Fire Rescue left the scene at approximately 8:00 AM this morning. The scene is not being held by RCMP.

100 Mile Fire Rescue and 100 Mile House RCMP are continuing to collaborate as to the cause of the fire. Even though the buildings are being torn down, there was potentially significant risk to the community from extremely poor air quality to the potential for the fire to spread to other parts of the town" said S/Sgt Svend Nielsen NCO Ii/c 100 Mile House . Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to anyone caused by the event or while the 100 Mile Fire Rescue extinguished the blaze. The joint investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this event can contact the 100 Mile House RCMP at 250-395-2456 and refer to file 2020-3969 or if someone wishes to remain anonymous, they can contact BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
