File # 2024-17111
On September 4, 2024 shortly after 2:00 p.m., West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a collision involving two pedestrians at the roundabout on Peatt Rd and Brock Ave in Langford.
Officers from the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit attended the scene along with BC Emergency Health Services and Langford Fire. Police determined a mother was crossing the crosswalk with her 11-month-old child in a stroller when they were hit by a Nissan Pathfinder SUV.
The SUV was travelling at a high-speed within the roundabout before it made a right turn onto Brock Avenue, where the 25-year-old mother and her child were crossing with the pedestrian lights flashing.
First responders determined, though upset, the child did not suffer major injuries. EHS transported the child to hospital as a precaution. The mother suffered non-life threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital to receive ongoing care.
The 24-year-old driver was issued a violation ticket for Drive Without Due Care and Attention under the Motor Vehicle Act. The owner of the vehicle was issued a Box 1 Notice and Order, requiring the vehicle to be towed and undergo a full mechanical inspection.
It is remarkable, and extremely fortunate, that after a collision like this the mother and child left the scene without life threating injuries. We want to thank all of the witnesses who called 911 right away and stayed on scene, said Cpl Mike Jacobson, West Shore Municipal Traffic Section.
