Guilty pleas entered for the shooting of Ripudaman Singh Malik

Two men have entered guilty pleas in the shooting death of Ripudaman Singh Malik which occurred in July 2022.
Background:
On July 14, 2022, the Surrey RCMP responded to shots fired at the business complex at 8236 128 Street, Surrey and found Ripudaman Singh Malik suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving interventions, Mr. Malik died at scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in to investigate.
On July 26, 2022, charges of first degree murder were approved against 21-year-old Tanner Fox and 23-year-old Jose Lopez for the murder of Ripudaman Singh Malik. Tanner Fox and Jose Lopez were arrested in their residences without incident.
Update:
On October 21, 2024, both Tanner Fox and Jose Lopez appeared in New Westminster Supreme, and each entered a guilty plea to degree murder. There is an automatic sentence of life imprisonment for this offence. Crown Counsel and defence counsel have made a joint submission that the parole ineligibility period should be 20 years. Further submissions will be made when the sentencing hearing continues.
The matter is next in court on October 31, 2024 to schedule a date for the continuation of the sentencing hearing.
